Is Your Digital Fortress Ready for Cybersecurity Month?

Hello Reader,

Welcome to the October edition of The Family Home Tech Bulletin!

October is officially Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and it's a perfect time for all of us to take a more intentional and proactive look at our digital lives. So, this month, everything we do is about building a digital fortress around your home.

This Month’s Action Plan for October:

This month, our free Family Action Calendar is all about putting your security first. Here are a few simple, powerful actions you can take:

  • Enforce 2FA on all of your accounts. Two-factor authentication is the single best step you can take to prevent a hack.
  • Change your passwords if necessary. Now is the perfect time to update any old, reused, or weak passwords.
  • Help the senior members of your family recognize how scams work so they can be avoided, and help them with securing their online accounts.

YourTech, Your Future

Last month, I had the privilege of speaking to a group of 8th graders about living in an always-online world and how they can be successful by learning and holding on to their values. The experience was incredible. It reminded me that our kids are the first "true digital natives" and that we, as parents and guardians, need to listen to them in order to guide them.

This blog post is part of a series that will share what I learned from those conversations. It will give you a guide to understanding your kids' online world and how to help them navigate it with confidence.

What to do if Your account is hacked.

Have you ever gotten an email from a friend's social media account and knew something was off? In a world where a hacked account is no longer a rare event, it is important to know what to do if you or a loved one becomes a victim.

This blog post, "My Social Media Account Hacked", is an honest, personal account of how to handle the situation and what you can do to prevent it from happening again.
