Hello Reader,
Welcome to the September edition of The Family Home Tech Bulletin! I'm Evan Glenn, and I'm genuinely thrilled to have you here as part of our growing community. I want to thank you for all of your support in August. It was a very big month for Family Home Tech.
As we settle into our new fall routines, it's a great time to give our digital lives a quick check-up.
Spotlight: Check-ups
Fall Digital Check-up
As the fall season begins and routines shift, it's the perfect time for a digital reset. Here are a few simple steps you can take:
- Update Your Devices: That little update notification is a security fix waiting to happen. Make sure to update your phone, computer, and any other devices.
- Review Your Passwords: Take a moment to check your most important accounts. Do you have a long, strong, and unique password for each one?
- Clean Up Your Digital Clutter: Just like you would spring clean your home, fall is a great time to clean up your digital life. Organize your photos, files, and unsubscribe from old newsletters.
Speaking of routines, with the school year in full swing, it's a great time to re-evaluate our digital habits.
Back-to-School Tech Check-Up
Take a moment to think about the devices, apps, and online interactions in your family's life.
- Online Rules Refresher: Have you had a conversation about online rules with your children? A quick refresher can help them remember to think before they post or click.
- Digital Footprint: Do your children understand that what they post online creates a digital footprint that can follow them into the future?
- Cyberbullying: It's important to remind them what to do if they see or experience cyberbullying.
One of the biggest challenges for families today is finding a healthy balance, and I’ve got some great resources for you.

And here is a quick tip that you can implement today to protect your digital life.
Quick Tip: The 3-2-1 Backup Rule!
We prepare for all kinds of disasters in life, but what about a digital one? Imagine losing all your precious photos, videos, and important documents in an instant!
My best advice for truly safeguarding your memories is the simple 3-2-1 Backup Strategy:
- Have at least 3 copies of your important data (your original, plus two backups).
- Store those copies on 2 different types of media (like your computer + an external drive + cloud storage).
- Keep 1 copy offsite (somewhere completely separate from your home, like a friend's house or secure cloud).
This simple yet powerful approach helps ensure your digital memories are safe even if the unexpected happens. It's like insurance for your digital life!
To help you put these ideas into practice, we also have this month's action plan.
